If you have attended our roadmap sessions in the recent months, or attended RSA Charge or have attended our FFTH on RSA Archer 6.7 Overview, you are probably aware that there is something cool about the new chart capabilities. We are excited, and hope you are too, to use these new capabilities. These will enable users to better visualize, analyze and draw insights from your RSA Archer data.

So what has changed?

RSA Archer has replaced its existing chart capability with a new, modern and widely used chart library. With this RSA Archer now has:

  • New Visualization options
  • Interactivity options
  • Visually appealing charts

In addition to the above, you will realize that there are lot of other UI changes that have been made generally to RSA Archer, these UI changes will be covered in more detail in our next week's FFTH: Improved User Experience with RSA Archer 6.7. A cumulative effect of all these changes can be seen in the sample screen below:

Let us now look at the changes brought in to the charts capability.

New Visualization Options

Tree Map

Tree Maps are used to visually display hierarchical data using nested rectangles. Each rectangle has an area proportional to the amount of data it represents. Additionally these charts can display several levels of data within the same chart. To view additional levels of information users can click into a specific rectangle (area) on the chart to drill down into the next level. Users can use a 'back' button (data/series name) to go back to their earlier view. All this without having to click modify or leaving the current view!

A Tree Map can be plotted for a single aggregate, and one or more grouping functions. The first 'Group by' field becomes the top-level and subsequent 'Group by' fields are displayed using the drill down method. These charts can also be plotted by grouping fields from different applications using the ‘Add New Relationship’ option under statistical search.

There has been no hard limit set to the number of levels that you can drill down using Tree Maps, however it is not recommended to be used beyond 4 or 5 levels.

Sunburst

Like Tree Map, Sunbursts are also used to visually display hierarchical data. However with a Sunburst chart users can see multiple levels of data in single view of the chart. To view additional levels of information users can click into a specific pie on the chart to drill down. Similar to how users can go back in a Tree Map, users can return to a higher level of data using a 'back' button (data/series name).

A Sunburst can be plotted for a single aggregate, and one or more grouping functions. The first 'Group by' field becomes the inner-most circle and subsequent 'Group by' fields are displayed as external concentric circles, distributed into various pie, in proportion to the data. These charts can also be plotted by grouping fields from different applications using the ‘Add New Relationship’ option under statistical search. It supports up to 3 levels of data.

Combination Chart

A combination chart enables visualization and interpretation of complex multiple aggregate information in a single chart. This visualization uses bar and line(s) and different axes (up to 3). The chart can be used when you have a single group function and 2 or 3 different aggregates. The first aggregate forms a bar graph and the second and third aggregate will form the line graphs. For each aggregate a y-axis is created, so with this chart you can see a maximum of 3 y-axes.

Live-Filtering

With these new charts, legend becomes more powerful. You can now use legend for a multiple group chart to live filter your chart. A single click on a legend hides the corresponding data, and a second click brings back the data. Each time RSA Archer re-draws the chart and it happens quickly and without leaving the page!

How do I get these charts?

You can get these capabilities on fresh install/upgrade your current environment to RSA Archer 6.7! In case of upgrade all your existing charts will automatically refresh to the new look and feel. You will however have to create new charts or modify exisiting ones to take advantage of the newly added visualizations.

What else is new?

While this is already a long list, it isnt complete! We have added quite a few other capabilities including:

  • Logarithmic charts
  • Improved gauge charts
  • Improved Featured Metrics
  • New color palettes
  • New color option: Single color
  • Ability to create dynamic markers
  • Chart-to-chart drill down on Vertical Bar, Horizontal bar, Pie and Donut charts
  • Ability to display Axes Title(s)

To view these, new visualization options, interactive options, deprecated options and migration of current charts; please attend this week’s Free Friday Tech Huddle. Please tune in to see these features in action!
